Recently, good news came from the National Finals of the 7th Industrial Internet Competition hosted by the National Industrial Information Security Development Research Center: the "Intelligent Agent Solution for Coal Machinery Equipment Early Warning and Analysis Based on Large Models," independently developed by Nanjing-based enterprise Luculent, won the first prize in the Leading Group category.
This "champion" industrial software solution targets the "giants" hundreds of meters deep underground—key coal mining machinery equipment such as shearers and armored face conveyors. In the past, assessing equipment "health" relied solely on veteran technicians' sensory checks and "rule-of-thumb" experience. This approach not only incurred high maintenance costs, slow response times, difficulties in knowledge transfer, and low decision-making efficiency but also carried the risk of safety incidents caused by operating equipment in a faulty state, which long constrained the safety, economy, and intelligent level of equipment operation and maintenance in the coal industry.
"Our goal is to create a 'health manager' for coal machinery equipment driven by 'intelligent agents'," said Mao Xuchu, Vice President of Luculent. This system is based on the Luculent Sushine Industrial Internet Platform, deeply integrating five types of "diagnostic skills" such as vibration, oil analysis, and current spectrum. Its core is an "intelligent agent collaboration network" consisting of one vertical large model for coal machinery equipment and 28 specialized AI assistants. When abnormal equipment data appears, the "intelligent agent" is activated—tracing historical data to locate the root cause, querying the knowledge base to compare against tens of thousands of maintenance records, and automatically generating diagnostic reports and work orders. By enabling intelligent decision-making through the fusion analysis of multi-source heterogeneous data, its early warning accuracy rate reaches 95%. This upgrades the maintenance model from "fix it after it breaks" to "predictive maintenance," shifting from "human-led" to "agent-led, human-supervised."
Getting AI to work truly "intelligently" in underground mine tunnels is no easy task. "In practical application, the most difficult issue to handle is model hallucination," Mao Xuchu frankly admitted. When AI is fed a jumble of data of varying quality, it can produce seemingly plausible yet fundamentally incorrect judgments that deviate from industrial common sense and precise data. In coal mine equipment maintenance, such misjudgments can lightly affect production and, in serious cases, concern safety.
"High-quality data is key; we must 'purify the source'," Mao Xuchu stated pointedly. On project sites, Luculent's technical team collaborated with client engineers to screen, label, and process data, constructing three major categories of high-quality industry datasets covering small model training, large model fine-tuning, and professional knowledge bases. This transformed the vague, experiential knowledge that previously existed only in veteran technicians' minds or on paper records into structured, standardized data "nourishment," providing a stable and reliable data foundation for model training and inference.
Moreover, through its remote intelligent equipment operation and maintenance platform, Luculent has connected the "cloud brain" to the "edge and device ends," realizing a full-process closed loop from equipment access and monitoring to operation and maintenance management. This allows various digital-intelligence models to work flexibly and reliably within complex industrial processes. At a demonstration, engineers could drag and drop various functional components on a visual canvas like building blocks to flexibly customize professional intelligent agents.
Today, this system is already "on duty" at over 40 top industry enterprises including China National Coal Group, China Coal Technology & Engineering Group, and CHN Energy. It connects the equipment data and maintenance knowledge of group headquarters, technical service companies, machinery factories, and subordinate mines into an intelligent network, building a new cross-hierarchical collaborative maintenance system that effectively enhances equipment operation safety and maintenance efficiency.
